Pour a cup of white vinegar into the bowl and pump through to dissolve mineral deposits.

Close the intake and discharge seacocks before disassembly.

Remove the pump cover and inspect the joker valve for cracking or sticktion.

Replace joker valve if it does not spring back to shape when squeezed.

Inspect the piston O-rings and seals; replace from rebuild kit if hardened or cracked.

Check intake and discharge hoses for odor permeation (hoses should be replaced every 5-7 years).

Inspect the macerator (if equipped) for blockages; clean impeller.

Reassemble with new O-rings lubricated with waterproof grease.

Open seacocks and test pump operation.

Remind all crew never to flush non-marine-grade toilet paper and keep a log of rebuild dates.
