Test the radio on Channel 16: listen for traffic and conduct a radio check with marina.

Verify DSC (Digital Selective Calling) is enabled and MMSI is programmed correctly.

Test emergency DSC distress alert procedure (do NOT transmit false distress).

Inspect the antenna connector at the radio for corrosion; clean with contact spray.

Check the coax cable run for chafing, especially where it passes through deck.

Inspect the antenna at the masthead for damage (use binoculars).

Test the weather channel reception (WX1 through WX7).

Check battery connection for handheld VHF backup radio; charge if low.
