Fiberglass Hull Repair

Fiberglass mat epoxy resin hardener mixing cups brushes 80/120/220 grit sandpaper orbital sander acetone gelcoat wax gloves respirator

Step-by-Step Instructions

    Clean the damaged area with acetone and allow to dry completely.

  2. 2

    Use a grinder or sandpaper to feather out the damaged area at a 12:1 slope ratio.

    Cut fiberglass mat pieces slightly larger than the damaged area in graduated sizes.

    Mix epoxy resin per manufacturer instructions and wet out the smallest mat piece first.

    Apply layers of fiberglass mat, working from smallest to largest, wetting each layer.

    Allow to cure for 24 hours, then sand smooth starting with 80-grit.

    Apply gelcoat matched to hull color using a brush or roller.

  8. 8

    Wet sand with 220-grit when gelcoat is firm but not fully cured.

    Buff with 400, 600, then 800-grit wet sandpaper until smooth.

  10. 10

    Apply marine wax and polish to a shine.
